April is Autism Awareness Month

April is Autism Awareness Month

It’s hard to believe that spring is here. The bulbs are bursting with color and the grass has finally shed its residual sign of winter.  As we’ve been cooped up inside all season, it’s exciting to know that another ”room” awaits us outside – our backyards. Many of you have upgraded your interior living spaces these past few months and we’re excited to help you continue with your home improvements on your patio and through-out your property. Send us your ideas and we’ll send someone to work with you!

We’d also like to dedicate this edition of Clippings to autism awareness since April is Autism Awareness Month. LawnCare by Walter is a proud sponsor of Easter Seals, an organization dedicated to serving families coping with children who have disabilities including autism. Having a child of my own with autism makes sponsoring this admirable establishment dear to me. According to the CDC, approximately one in 54 children in the United States is diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The disease afflicts males more than females with one in 34 males diagnosed compared to one in 144 females.

Please consider donating to this worthy cause. As little as $5 will provide one ream of card stock for creating books on communication and $10 dollars will provide much-needed visual materials. A $25 donation will provide a group session for social skills and a $50 donation will provide one hour of therapy for a child who desperately needs it. To donate, please visit www.easterseals.com/chicago or call 1-815-395-5566.

In closing, I’d like to say how honored I was to be one of the top four  finalists in the Most Remarkable Woman of the Stateline event. That meant the world to me!

2020 may have slowed us down a little bit, but the time is now to spring into action and prepare for the next changing of the seasons. The snow that settled on our lawns and gardens is slowly damaging the existing turf, with a spotlight on snow mold and voles.
