Prevalent Turf Issues
If you’re experiencing fungus-like turf issues, you’re not alone. Our technicians say certain types of lawn fungi, such as Red Thread, Dollar Spot, and Leaf Spot, seem to be prevalent this year.
With the abundant rainfall, summer heat, and humidity, our cool season grasses have been exposed to various diseases and fungi, causing discoloration and bare spots. While there isn’t much of a chemical cure, the disease or fungus does eventually grow itself out as the soil dries. However, there are things you can do in the meantime to aid the turf in recovery. One tip is to mow at a higher height and catch or rake up the clippings.
The humidity and moisture also adds to weed growth. These weeds can geminate and grow in a short period of time. However, they’re usually easily controlled after germination. This is a good time to remind everyone that our full fertilizer programs, consisting of four or more applications, include FREE service calls. So if you see any issues or weeds popping up, we can come back out and re-spray your lawn for free between scheduled visits. Keep in mind, it does take approximately 7-10 days for the weeds to curl up once they’re sprayed.
