When we first met the homeowners, they expressed an interest in a "world class" entryway and patio design suitable for hosting large get-togethers with family and friends. Size was important to them as well as the ability to entertain in weather that was less than ideal. They already had a patio deck, but it needed some upgrading and a little more character to complement the other nicer features of their property. We recommended expanding and connecting the front entryway to the back patio so we began the project by removing the existing concrete walkway and stoop from both the front and the back deck. By installing a wider walkway with a large greeting circle in the front, the entryway space was increased allowing for more space when guests migrated to and from the backyard. Since the homeowners preferred curves over straight lines, we designed a curvilinear pattern that flowed towards the back. Because there was a significant difference in height from the ground level to the back door, we made sure to accommodate this environment with a multi-level patio. Each level of the patio has unique characteristics including a kitchen and bar area on one level featuring a grill, sink, refrigerator, built-in trash can, warming drawer, and granite countertop. Another level boasts a firepit encompassed with a seating area consisting of a double wide seat wall with a backrest and a smooth bench seat made with custom limestone. The firepit consists of a custom gas burning plate by Fire Gear. A large pitched roof above the grilling and bar area was also constructed and premium led low voltage lights with various illuminating and color options from FX Lighting were installed. The brick material was purchased through Unilock and the kitchen appliances came from Summerset. The next phase of the design will be greenery planted in the appropriate places to tie the hardscaping together. The homeowners are now ready to entertain!
What does one do with a large backyard area? Entertain and host family and loved ones of course! The husband and wife living at this property knew that they wanted to enhance their outdoor living space but were unable to visualize what that would look like. Our landscape designer created a detailed design to help conceptualize the style and appearance for their expansive backyard. The Belgard Mega Dublin paver patio and Belgard Weston Universal seal wall really stands out adding depth, color and character. Limestone caps were added to the Belgard Weston Universal pillars and the Belgard fire pit really added an additional touch of cozy and class!
The existing flagstone on this property had become an unappealing and difficult-to-navigate path no longer serving its intended purpose. We pulled and salvaged the usable pieces of flagstone, then excavated and expanded the proposed new walk from the driveway to the backyard pool deck. New base material was installed to ensure a solid foundation. Large pieces of Oakfield Flagstone were installed and mixed with the existing stone to create an attractive and usable path. Finishing with polymeric joint dust instead of plantings ensures that this space will stay clean from weeds and excess debris for years to come.
The staff at Honenegah High School wanted to create a usable and respectful space for their existing flagpoles. This area is used by students and staff for occasional gatherings, and due to the hilly landscape, made these congregations awkward. We designed a two-tiered space using Belgard Weston 3-piece wall stone in Ashbury Haze, Belgard Lafitt pavers in Gascony Tan, and Belgard Mega-Libre slab pavers in Danville Beige. Now there is ample seating as well as a more functional gathering area at the school.
This beautiful river front home has stunning views; unfortunately the only access to it was through the house or a treacherous worn staircase. With an update needed, there were some crucial componentst to consider before beginning this project: part of the existing stonework supported the upper deck; there was no machine access to the site (yup the crewmen lifted all these stones one by one by hand!;, and the project was right on the property line. We first stabilized the deck with a temporary support beam, then began to deconstruct and dispose of all the old stone. The new steps were constructed out of beautiful Unilock Ledgestone step units in Buff and the complimenting retaining walls were installed using Unilock Old Quarry wall stone in River. To maintain an even rise height on each of the steps, the overall stairway did expand and to our luck, ended perfectly at the end of the home's foundation. Now this owner has a comfortable and safe stairway to use while enjoying this beautiful backyard.
The owners of this duplex home wanted to upgrade the look of their home by updating their worn-out concrete driveway and sidewalks. The new Belgard Hollandstone pavers in Bordeaux Beige were installed in one seamless layout without interruption from the driveway to both doors and finished with a matching soldier course.
In this case, the homeowner knew exactly what he wanted. He already had a beautiful second story deck and lower level patio for entertaining, but he knew he needed something more. His family desired an addition that would bring them together and keep them warm. Due to the proximity to the home, our team could not install a fireplace to the existing patio. So, we got creative. Our designers created a more informal patio extension off of the lower patio. We then extended the existing retaining wall, appropriately graded the space, and finished it with a beautiful custom wood burning fireplace. The fireplace was constructed using Unilock's Brussels Universal wall block, and the patio's casual look was accomplished by using natural flagstone. To finish the project, we updated and extended the plantings around the patio to create a natural privacy screen, providing a cozier feel.
Our homeowner wanted to create a space to impress his guests. We started with a large focal stairway that leads to the top level of the yard using Belgard Granika step units in Cotswold Mist encased with large retailing walls measuring up to 3' high created from Belgard Wellington wall blocks in Cotswold Mist. The natural grade change lended itself to a tiered patio, using Belgard Lafitt pavers in Cotswold Mist and accented by a Hollandstone soldier course in Charcoal, with the upper tier leading closer to the existing deck space. To complete this expansive 1,100 square feet space, we installed a 4' fire pit using a Fire Gear gas burner kit and matching wall stone, then finished with decorative fire stone.
Our goal for this project to was modernize the homeowners' existing small patio area, creating a 'wow' factor. We achieve this by elevating the patio and creating built-in seating using Belgard Weston 3-piece wall block in Cotswold Mist. We finished the steps, seat wall, and accent pillar with a beautiful limestone coping, then completed the paved surface with complimentary Belgard Hollandstone Premium in Cotswold Mist and accented with a soldier course in Charcoal.
Our homeowner wanted an updated landscape throughout the property, a small paved space in which to relax, and a privacy barrier that wasn't just a row of trees. We started by creating a small patio using Belgard Mega Dublin pavers in Cotswold Mist with Weston Universal stone seat walls, also in Cotswold Mist, bordering the patio. This addition of seat walls created extra seating without sacrificing the gathering space. To create the privacy barrier, we planted Emerald Green Arborvitae, which will maintain the barrier throughout the entire year. The curvillinear landscape be, edged with 12-gauge steel edging, created additional visual interest; it was filled with a mix of low maintenance perennials, shrubs, and trees, including Hydrangeas, Viburmums, ornamental grasses, Azaleas, Coneflowers, Alliums, Coreposis, Geranium, and Wild Indigo. Only basic maintenance will be required on this landscape: cutting back perennials in fall/spring, selective pruning on shrubbery, and filling the landscape bed with mushroom compost and premium mulch.
This project's goal was to extend the outdoor living space from the deck to the lower yard by installing a paver patio. This large patio space, created from Belgard Lafitt pavers in Danville Beige and trimmed with a soldier course border using Hollandstone pavers in Charcoal, was adorned with Belgard Weston Universal and 3-piece wall stones in Danville Beige accent pillars and seat wall. We also incorporated a water feature and some plantings to soften the paved space. The Aquascape basalt column fountain created a unique focal point to the patio as well as a soothing sound. To complete the space, we installed outcropping stone to break up portions of the steep hillside while helping to prevent major water erosion.
Our homeowner wanted a low maintenance landscape that provided three-season visual interest. We installed a mix of shrubs and perennials throughout the landscape beds that will expand as they mature resulting in less space for weeds and mulch maintenance. Previous erosion issues in the front landscape bed were corrected by installing large Fond du Lac outcropping stone to break up the hillside and aid in structural support. Outcropping stone was also used as steps to lead to the elevated pool in the backyard.
The end goal on this specific project was to spruce up an existing driveway. Our customer really wanted to do something unique that would make a statement but wouldn't overpower the surrounding landscape. The plantings in front of the house were also designed to facilitate the owner's need of being low maintenance while fulfilling the attributes of multi-seasonal color and texture. Our Designer included natural Fon du Lac Outcropping stones and decorative tan and brown Meramac gravel by the culvert to soften the overall driveway appearance. Double processed dark brown hardwood mulch was added to enhance the color of both plant material and natural stone really making this overall look pop with color!
To freshen the look of this concrete pad, we created a multi-level patio using Belgard Mega Dublin pavers in Gascony Tan and accented with a Belgard Hollandstone soldier course in Ashbury Haze. Pillars and steps were created from Belgard Weston Universal wall stone in Gascony Tan. We softened the area by adding low-maintenance landscape plantings, which surrounded the patio. The homeowners were so pleased with the finished product that they chose to redo their front porch to match the paved backyard spaces.
The goal of this assisted living facility was to create an interactive and safe space for the residents to enjoy a meal during the beautiful summer months. Handicap access and protection from nearby parking lot traffic were a must. Large pillars were installed using Belgard Highland wall stone in Ashbury Haze to create "posts" for the fence as well as provide depth and scale. The paving stone chosen, Belgard Hallandstone in Ashbury Haze with a Gascony Tan soldier course, was clean and smooth in order to avoid any trip hazards. Lighting, new plantings, and a soothing water feature were installed to complete the space.
Safety had become a concern due to rotting and crumbling railroad ties at this business, and the owners were ready for a sleek, updated look. We installed Fond du Lac natural cut wall stone, keeping a similar layout to the pre-existing wall. Low profile, low maintenance plantings replaced the outdated plantings, adding color without detracting from the attractive natural stone behind them. The end result for this local dealership is both attractive and safe.
Our goal for this project was too create unity amongst a mix of hardscape materials and implement one cohesive space that allowed for multiple uses: grilling, entertaining, lounging, seamless passage from multiple entrances, and safe passage for bare feet heading to the pool. The final plan incorporated Unilock's Beacon Hill paver in Bavarian Blend with a Brussels paver soldier course in Buff for the expansive patio space. The steps and wall were constructed using Unilock's Old Quarry stone in River, and bull nose caps were utilized on the steps to help protect bare feet. The free-standing wall at the end of the patio was built as a home for the grill and to screen the pool pump and equipment from view. Finally, surrounding landscape plantings were renovated to enhance the space and provide privacy.
When we met with the homeowner of this project, she expressed a desire to expand her outdoor entertainment space from the current deck. So our designer and project manager Logan Alberts created a beautifully flowing oversized walkway from the deck that led to a new raised patio with a firepit behind the deck. Elevating the patio and adding seat walls and columns created depth and dimension to the space helping it stand out against the deck. The flowing lines and rounded patio were used with the intention to soften the rectilinear lines of the existing deck and house. The following Unilock products were used on this project: Olde Quarry retaining wall block, Full nose coping, Westport pavers all in the color Sierra. Hollandstone Premier pavers in the color Heritage Brown were used as an accent throughout.
It was out with the old and in with the new for this homeowner. The homeowners wanted an open space that would flow nicely, providing multiple areas for entertaining. They desired a backyard retreat that was spacious enough for a comfortable, yet cozy setting. The brick work was completed using Belgard products. The patio includes Lafitt Danville Beige pavers, with an Ashbury Haze soldier course. The seat walls, pillars, and fire pit were created using the Weston 3 piece retaining wall blocks in Danville Beige with an Ashbury Haze accent. The pergola added the rustic feel, with the help of dark brown cedar timbers. No paver fortress like this would be complete without lighting to add the perfect ambiance once the sun sets. Integral lights were installed throughout the seat walls and step leading up to the house to illuminate the space at night.
Logan was awesome to work with. He had great ideas for our patio and we love our new patio. Logan's team was prompt, very hard working, and did a great job for us!

This terraced landscape was in need of a makeover. Dated flagstone steps were uneven and falling apart making them dangerous to traverse. And the patio was dingy and offered limited usable space. It was time to bring the landscape up to the clean, contemporary look of the home's structure. The first item we needed to contend with was the steep hillside adjacent to the proposed patio area. The homeowner expressed a desire to not only update this space but incorporate natural elements. So when working on the design our designer chose to use large Chilton natural outcropping stone along the hillside to serve both as a retaining wall and steps leading from the upper yard to the lower patio. This served not only a functional purpose but also created a beautiful tapestry of stonework interwoven with ornamental plants that further aided in erosion control. The new patio was expanded into one cohesive space with smooth curving lines that didn't take away from the natural feel of the space. Taking it a final step further our designer chose to cut the patio into the natural wall stone to give the feeling that the patio was constructed around naturally occurring outcropping. Unilock's Beacon Hill Smooth pavers in Bavarian Blend and Hollandstone Premier pavers in Heritage Brown were used for the patio.
It's always a challenge creating functional spaces on a small footprint, but if you get a little creative it can be done! This homeowner wanted to create just that; a small functional living space. The challenge on this site was the grade change between the back door, the garage door, and the existing lawn which were all at different levels. In order to create a cohesive space, we elevated the main patio space to reduce the number of necessary steps out the back door and instead created a large stairway from the patio to the walkway that would meet the garage door at grade. Space was extremely limited for equipment access and we also had to work around an existing mature tree that prevented us from making any major grade changes. The finished product provided us with just what we were looking for, a functional intimate space that appeared as though it had always been there! We used Unilock products on this site as follows: Old Quarry wall block in the color Granite, Beacon Hill Flagstone pavers in the color Bavarian Blend, and Hollandstone Premier pavers as an accent in the color Charcoal.
Outdoor entertaining doesn't always mean fancy firepits and endless seat walls. This newly constructed patio is simple but makes a statement in the back yard. The seat walls were strategically placed towards the end of the patio to visually create a more open and spacial area. The pillars blending in to the wall gave this patio the perfect kind of accent for a more flattering look. Belgard Weston Universal wall stone in Cotswold Mist color and a natural limestone cap for the pillars compliments the the style of the existing house. The Belgard Holland stone pavers in Cotswold Mist also do well to match the walls and Belgard Granika Step.
This previously overgrown garden was in desperate need of makeover. Our customer was looking to transform his existing garden to something more manageable and contemporary in style. The existing patio and large open windows faced the garden so creating a beautiful focal point was key. One of our talented Landscape Designers used the existing planter beds and Japanese maple to integrate with the different newly installed plant textures and colors. The bubbling water feature was used as a simple design but strong in nature while using carefully placed Unilock Rivenstone stepping stones in the color Canyon. The relaxing sound of bubbling water echoes throughout the backyard enticing one to kick back and unwind.
When first starting this project, the homeowners had planned to install an in-ground pool. Because the elevation of the grade drastically changed throughout parts of the backyard, a retaining wall was needed on the outer edge of the pool. After a contractor poured concrete around the outside part of the pool, LCBW installed a retaining wall surrounding most of the area. Ideal entrances and exits were also a key part of this plan. LCBW provided two main entrances using matching brick to create stairs going up and down the changing grades. The owners also wanted two different entertaining areas – each with its own elevation. The firepit area was created with natural flagstone to provide a ground level area along with a raised smaller patio where guests could get out of the sun and relax. The raised patio section was built using the same brick for the retaining walls and covered with a closed roof pergola. Everything was complemented with low-maintenance perennials and shrubs including native coneflowers and colorful varieties of low-growing perennials. To balance the unevenness, Hydrangeas were planted throughout the landscaping beds. Materials used: Unilock Estate wall block River color with fullnose coping. Chilton flagstone around fire pit. Mix of low maintenance perennials coneflower, coreopsis, allium, stachys, low growing shrubs, hydrangea
Sometimes we come across a customer who already has the idea and design in hand and is looking for a reputable company to perform the work. Lucky for us, this country club entrusted LawnCare by Walter to bring their drawing and idea to life! The product used for this beautiful seat wall was Unilock Olde Quarry wall stone in the color of Coffee Creek. Unilock Brussels Full Nose cap in Coffee Creek color was used for a more defined and finished appearance. The wall defining pillars were constructed using the same Olde Quarry wall stone with a Grey Unilock Ledgestone cap.
This project was uniquely designed to reflect the cultural background of our customer. Two of our talented Project Managers/Landscape Designers worked together to create a peaceful retreat of relaxation while incorporating the Asian elements of earth, water, stone, wood and a contrast of textures. The cedar trellises were custom designed and made by our team of skilled employees and the solid granite pagoda nestled between the red maple and lush evergreens was custom lit by our Project Manager for a lasting touch of artistry. In the back yard we used Belard Wellington wall in an Ashbury Haze color with a matching cap for the tapering retaining wall. The steps are Belgard Granika in Danville Beige and the patio pavers are Belgard Lafitt in the Ashbury Haze color with a Belgard Danville Beige accent band. The cozy firepit was created using the same stone as the retaining wall. The sidewalk and stoop to the front entrance of the house reflects the same beautiful wall and pavers that were used in the back yard.
Relaxing doesn't always have to take place in the back yard. This existing ordinary looking concrete pad was renovated to incorporate more of a relaxed atmosphere so the home owner could peacefully sit out in front of his house. The crescent shape of the Ashbury Haze Belgard Holland Stone paver patio and new plantings really opened up the space nicely and gave it more of an inviting look and feeling.
When designing and executing projects big or small, it is extremely important to understand and listen to the wants and needs of the customer. With this project, the customer wanted to better utilize their beautiful backyard and had outgrown their existing small concrete patio. Privacy and ample space for seating was also on their must have list. It was a bit of a challenge working with a sloped lawn but our Project Managers and crew took on the challenge with great success. The raised patio is enclosed with gorgeous seat walls using Belgard Weston Stone 3 piece in Ashbury Haze color with a matching Holland Stone paver. Weston Universal wall pillars with Belgard Esplanade Pillar Limestone caps. were added to define the space and enhance the intimacy of privacy.
When the homeowners of this picturesque log cabin came to us, they felt uninspired with their simple square patio. Ultimately, the homeowners sought an outdoor space that could be enjoyed day and night, whether it was a quiet family evening or a party of 10. With the homeowners' aspirations in the hands of our designers, we developed a functional space that also aesthetically complimented the woodsy feel of their home. With approximately 1,000 square feet of patio space, seat walls running the entire perimeter, a raised fire pit, built-in grill and bar area, and plenty of lighting, the final design achieved exactly what the owners' were looking for! When it came to the products used, Belgard's quality professional grade stone provided just the look we were hoping for: Weston stone wall stone and pillars and Mega-Libre pavers. We integrated a mixed color scheme with Danville Beige and Ashbury Haze.
Danielle & Tim were an absolute joy to work with. Manny & the crews were also great to work with. All together they made a great team which led to a great experience throughout the job.
After visiting Rosary gardens in the surrounding area, the leaders at St. Rita Catholic Church knew it was time for a beautiful and sacred sanctuary of their own. Church leaders had many goals in mind: handicap accessibility, proper lighting for extended use and safety, private & open spaces, easy navigation through the rosary prayers, and durability. We first recognized the existing mature trees around the site were extremely valuable to the project; adding both scale and depth. We wanted to then add warmth and even more scale to the space by installing a variety of hardy plants. In the end, more than 1,200 plants were installed. When it came to the actual hardscape, we installed approximately 2,300 square feet of Ashbury Haze, Belgard Mega-Dublin pavers. Of course no sanctuary would be complete without the peaceful resonance of running water. That's why we specifically designed a three-stone basalt water feature with a winding dry creek to be installed at the center of the garden. We finished the project by installing low voltage LED accent lights and up lights throughout the garden. The statues and markers were purchased by the church. More than five months after breaking ground, the new Rosary Garden was complete and the parishioners and guests of St. Rita Catholic Church had a new place to worship and honor the Blessed Mother of Jesus.
In this private and quiet setting, our Project Manager used the surrounding landscape to inspire a rustic themed outdoor space where family and friends could relax. The pre-existing concrete patio started failing and our customer trusted us to create a provincial style landscape to enjoy for many years! The patio pavers used to create a natural look were Belgard Mega Libre in a Danville Beige color, the pillar walls that encase the wood beams on the beautiful wooden deck were Belgard Weston Wall in Gascony Tan color and the gorgeous stone staircase is Belgard Granika in the Gascony Tan color.
