Millenium Allium

Millenium Allium

Ornamental Features:

The votes are in and this Ornamental Onion variety has won the prestigious honor of being the 2018 Perennial Plant of the Year! This low maintenance, compact perennial is sure to win your heart and grows in small clumps that are easily divided in the early spring or late fall. It does not freely spread and reseeding is a minimal concern in comparison to other Allium varieties. It’s glossy, narrow grass-like foliage adds a lovely texture contrast against other landscape plants. Millenium Allium makes for a superb addition to butterfly gardens, attracting beautiful butterflies and other beneficial pollinators like bees and humming birds.

Allium are unique cut flowers in both fresh and dried arrangements and Millenium is no exception. The rose-purple summer blooms will fade in to a tan color in the fall and if you look carefully, you will note hints of lavender still remain present, even in the dried blooms. By mid and late summer, most of our garden plants are beginning to tire from the heat and drought, but not Allium. By mid summer the blooms on Millenium are in full show and perform with excellence, even on the hottest of summer days. When the growing season has come to an end, that doesn’t meant the garden must fade to the far reaches of our memories. If left to dry, the spent flowers on the Allium plant will add texture and interest to your winter garden. Pesky deer and rabbits wreaking havoc on your garden? Allium is both deer and rabbit resistant.
Landscape Uses:
With this compact habit, Millenium Allium fits in right at home as a border plant, whether along the edge of a sidewalk or to soften one's front foundation planting of Boxwood. Looking to create a low maintenance garden that still has that gardeny, fussed-over look? Make sure to add Millenium Allium to your planting list!
