Cultural Requirements

Drought tolerant, salt tolerant, and hardy this Midwest native can make a fabulous alternative to the more commonly used garden and landscape roses. Plant it in full sun and well drained soil and this rose will thrive! Highly adaptable to a range of sites from parking lot islands to cottage gardens Rugosa rose can fit into almost any space that’s not too wet.

Ornamental Features

Available in many varieties including: Purple Pavement, Frau Dagmar Hastrup, and Wild Spice, this rose provides a color range from white to pink to purple. Fragrant and prolific the flowers cover the densely rounded shrub from early summer to fall. In the fall, large, deep orange to red rosehips develop covering the plant extending the ornamental value into winter. Rose hips are valuable not only ornamentally, but medicinally too as they are high in vitamin C. They are often used in making tea, jams, and jellies.

Great used as specimens, screening plants, in cottage gardens, and difficult sites.
