Storm Cloud Amsonia

Storm Cloud Amsonia is a cultivated perennial native to Missouri. We love all Amsonia varieties for their early blooms and fabulous fall foliage. This variety emerges with almost black stems that open up with olive-green foliage in the spring. In May, small star-shaped blue clusters of flowers blanket the tops of the tall upright foliage. Blue flowers are uncommon in the landscape so we like to incorporate this perennial for a different pop of color. Shrub-like in shape this perennial dominates it’s space and makes an excellent anchor or backdrop to other perennials. It’s bright yellow fall foliage gives this perennial multi-season interest in the garden.
